I believe in replacing all the nuts, bolts and washers etc. with new genuine Honda ones. That's why a parts catalog is handy to have so that you can order each one by the correct part number. That way the bike is correct and exactly the way it came from the factory. New nuts and bolts are that fine detail that separate the men from the boys. I order the most common ones in bulk as shown in this little sampling. They usually come in packs of 10 from Honda.
1. VIN Tag Re-Installation
To reinstall the vin tag make sure that the holes are clear of any powder coating or paint. You can do this by using a small round pointed file. Be careful not to file the holes larger than they were from the factory, or your brads will not fit tightly. Push each brad in as far as you can with your finger as shown in picture above.
Gently tap the brads in with a mallet until the head of the brad touches the vin tag. That's it. Now it looks as it did from the factory.
2. Rubber Motor Mount Re-Installation
If you are careful removing the rubber motor mounts during disassembly, you can reinstall them very easily. Wash them good with soap and water, then treat them with Back to Black. They will push back in with your hand, or lightly tap them in with a mallet as shown in the pictures above.
3. Rubber Gas Tank Cushions Re-Installation
As mentioned before, Wash them good with soap and water, then treat them with Back to Black. It makes them look new and softens them up. See the difference before and after in the above pictures.
4. Side Reflectors and harness straps Re-Installation
Again, Wash them good with soap and water, then treat them with Back to Black. See the difference before and after in the
above pictures.
