Part 10: The finished Product

One last item to address is the body work. My CBX needed all the bodywork except the rear tail section. I needed a tank, so I chose to buy a good un-dented one on ebay, but it was slightly faded. This is probably OK for most bikes. But I wanted it showroom new. So I elected to have it painted. I bought the paint from Color-Rite, and had it done professionally by a guy who does show quality work. The paint job turned out incredible. It was like glass. Flawless! Except for two things… it was not like glass from the factory, and the color was off just slightly. Not that Color-Rite is off, but this is a translucent color, so the shade and final color depends on the number of coats you apply over the silver base coat. I just couldn’t live with it, so I opted to buy an NOS tank, and front fender. They are not cheap, but now I love it. I don’t even think about it anymore.

There is really is nothing like the factory paint for originality. That is just me though;

you may not be that anal about it. That is perfectly fine. We all have our standards. I struggle with mine all the time. Because of that, I usually spend way too much money on things, but that’s the way it is. I believe that what ever makes you happy is the right way.

The N.O.S. Tank is Beautiful!

There is nothing more satisfying than sitting back, after months of long hours and hard work, and just staring at it. You almost take on the sense that someone else did it. You seem to forget that at one time, you felt that you could never do it, or that it wasn’t worth the pain that my arms are experiencing from all the rubbing and buffing. You forget all of that because the finished product is so striking that it overshadows everything else.

There is a reward for those who are willing to put out the effort. The more the effort, the bigger the reward. My reward is that I can re-live what it was like back in 1978 when first laid eyes on my first CBX…..I can experience that everyday now.

I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to share my CBX experience with you. I would encourage anyone who wants to talk or has questions to email me or call me, or if you want, to come by and take a look. You can call me at 415-272-8133, or email me at digitalpizza@comcast.net

Also, please come to my website at www.digitalpizza.com and enjoy my other bikes I have on there as well as some additional pictures of this CBX.
